ALPE-ADRIA UNDERGROUND! set for world premiere at DokuFest Prizren
After a long and laborious post-production stage we are happy to announce that Matevž Jerman’s and Jurij Meden’s documentary feature ALPE-ADRIA UNDERGROUND! will premiere at the upcoming international documentary film festival DokuFest in Prizren, Kosovo.
The film borrows its title from an article by Silvan Furlan, the late director of the Slovenian Cinematheque, who is considered a pioneer of research into the history of Slovenian avant-garde cinema. The production of the film radically accelerated efforts to preserve, digitise and restore this segment of Slovenian cinema, with the Slovenian Cinematheque – the initiatior and also the co-producer of the film – preserving and digitising 179 short films made during the socialist period (1945-1991), although mostly outside the dominant state production of the time.
Alpe-Adria Underground! features interviews with many of the still living film-makers and authors, as well as film historians, critics, and festival selectors, including Petra Belc, Vasja Bibič, Barbara Borčič, Greg de Cuir Jr., Jože Dolmark, Karpo Godina, Nerina T. Kocjančič, Naško Križnar, Davorin Marc, Miodrag Miša Miloševič, Varja Močnik, Ivan Nedoh, Igor Prassel, Tone Rački, Borko Radešček, Ivan Ramljak, Slobodan Šijan, Zdenko Vrdlovec, Matjaž Žbontar and Želimir Žilnik.
DokuFest was founded in 2002 with the vision of revitalising cinema and enriching the cultural landscape of Prizren. Over the years, it has developed into the most renowned documentary and short film festival in South-East Europe, and has been awarded BAFTA qualifying status for short films in 2019 and European Film Academy qualifying status in 2022.
The film will be screened on August 5th and 7th, with both directors in attendance.
